Annie and Emma volunteer at World Humanist Congress 2014

Be a friend to international Humanism, by donating your talents!

IHEU is dedicated to building the worldwide humanist community, to networking our Member Organizations together, and to advancing our policy agenda at the international and regional levels.

We have a small staff team managing key work areas and coordinating activities between national and local Member Organizations, and we are very grateful to the various volunteers who contribute to our work.

Some of our volunteer opportunities can be worked remotely (online) from anywhere in the world. No previous experience in the organized humanist movement is necessary.

Advocacy Research Internship – Brussels

The IHEU is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to volunteer as an intern providing research assistance to our director of advocacy. This is a voluntary (unpaid) position, based in Brussels, two days a week for 3 months. Deadline for applications 27 April.

The IHEU’s advocacy programme currently concentrates most of its work at the UN (in Geneva and New York) and the Council of Europe (in Strasbourg), where it seeks to promote its human rights concerns and humanist policies. Part of its success in this aim relies on having high-quality and professional research as a basis for its submissions, interventions and advocacy in general. The research assistant would be instrumental in this area.

Country Researchers (Freedom of Thought Report)

The Freedom of Thought report surveys discrimination against the non-religious around the world. You can read about the project and discover the entire Online Edition on the dedicated website at freethoughtreport.com.

A team of researcher volunteers works to keep the report up to date on an ongoing basis. You may either join the team with permanent access to the report’s collaborative editing suite, or if your availability is limited to a shorter time frame you may be able to focus on a specific country, countries, or region. Some skills and experience in writing, research, or policy work would be beneficial.

Volunteers for this project can work remotely from anywhere in the world. Some use of email and online documents will be required.

Apply: To apply as a volunteer researcher please complete this online application form.

Translation

We are looking for people to help us translate IHEU material and stories. We are looking for individuals who can translate from English into other UN languages. We are particularly interested in Spanish and Portuguese (our current “priority region” under our Growth and Development programme is Latin America).

We are also producing development materials and resource packs for new groups, and we want these also to be translated. We are committed to translating some of our historic resolutions into many languages.

If you can help on an ad hoc or ongoing basis please email office@iheu.org with your stated languages and any experience in translation.
