The first speaker for the event is Roberto Burioni, Professor of Microbiology and Virology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, who is well-known in Italy for his activism against “fake news” and conspiracy theories on vaccines. The second annual African Humanist Youth Days (AHYD) event is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria on 7 – 8 July, 2017 at the Orchid Hotel, Lekki, Lagos. The theme for this year's event is "African Youth for critical thinking and active Humanism". It will be attended by delegates from Humanist Organizations across Nigeria as well as delegates from Tanzania, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya and Zimbabwe. One-day international conference and General Assemblies

The World Humanist Congress scheduled to take place in São Paulo, Brazil in August has been cancelled. In place of the Congress, IHEU is working in partnership with the British Humanist Association to organise a one day international conference on the global challenges of nationalism, populism, religious extremism and illiberalism and the need to defend and promote democracy and human rights in response.
