One-day international conference and General Assemblies

The World Humanist Congress scheduled to take place in São Paulo, Brazil in August has been cancelled. In place of the Congress, IHEU is working in partnership with the British Humanist Association to organise a one day international conference on the global challenges of nationalism, populism, religious extremism and illiberalism and the need to defend and promote democracy and human rights in response. The 2017 All Ireland Humanist Summer School will be held from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th August in Carlingford, Co. Louth. The 2017 edition of the IHEU Freedom of Thought Report will be launched at the European Parliament in Brussels, hosted by the Intergroup on Freedom of Religion or Belief and Religious Tolerance. Why should Ireland repeal its blasphemy law? Join the discussion with IHEU Board member Gulalai Ismail and members of Atheist Ireland on 13 October in Dublin. Gulalai is a Pashtun human rights activist from Pakistan and chairperson of Aware Girls. She has been recently accused of "blasphemy" in its own country and courageously responded with these words: "“I will not be silenced. I am not afraid of these cowards. I will fight against them and prove them wrong.”
